Demonstration of seascape painting with oils

By Roy Lang

Roy Lang gave a facinating, inspiring and humorous demonstration in which he painted two seascapes.

Some photos of his demonstration are shown below.

The sky is painted using strong splashes of colour which are then carefully blended using a very soft brush

The wave is then painted and highlights added

The rocks are quickly added

Spray over the rocks is added together with more detail on the rocks themselves

More details suggesting movement are added to the water and more spray stippled on with a ragged brush.

After a well earned tea break, Roy started a second demonstration

The sky painted in together with the start of a wave

The breaking wave completed and the receding wave added

Wet sand added

More detail added together with some seagulls
