Demonstration of still life with acrylics

The tutor, Keith Morton usually works on a mid toned background on which he draws with crimson paint.

The original composition

Keith spent a considerable time on the drawing to ensure the angles, perspective, and relative measurements were correct. Only after the drawing was completed did he define the boundary of the painting. Note the different perspective due to the artist being considerably taller than the photographer!

Here the dark areas are blocked in with the same colour as used for the drawing

Here the lighter tones are added, taking care they are not as bright as future highlights

A start is made on applying the darker tones

More dark tones are added and colour added to the apple

 

 

The brightest highlights are added to bring the picture to life.
