Demonstration of landscape painting with watercolour

Rob gave another facinating demonstration of portrait painting, this time in oils.

Rob started by covering the canvas with very dilute washes of acrylic to remove the glaring white and loosely position the model. A warm orange was initially used followed by progressively cooler alizarin then ultramarine. This was then dried with a hair dryer

The composition was drawn with charcoal taking great care with the measurements of the main facial features.

The drawing was then fixed with hairspray

Skin tones are applied starting with the lightest

More skin tones applied, gradually covering the underlying drawing

The darkest skin tones are added
