Shortly after the Guild's own studio was built in 1961 on land
owned by Gwyneth Cowing, a founder member of the guild, members constructed
a sign which was erected by the entrance gate.
This is shown in the photograph above.
In summer 2014 the old sign was discovered in the undergrowth by the gate. It was in a very dilapitated condition with woodrot of the supporting post and faded paintwork of the sign itself as can be seen in the photo above. It was moved to a shed to prevent further deterioration.
In December 2014 it was decided to inspect the sign to see whether there was a possibility of it being restored. The above photo shows Guild Chairman Nichola and committee member Tony inspecting it after it had been cleaned up and a closer view of the sign itself. After some discussion it was decided that it was restorable and the guild would provide the materials for the rebuild if suitable volunteers could be found to carry out the work. Committee member Chris Baker took up the challenge.

The rotten lower end of the original post was removed and a new oak post spliced in.
